Drops Gneiss Rock

Description[]

Gneiss (pronounced "Nice") is an orangeish-tan rock that spawns in ores between Y=5 and Y=112. It can be crafted into a block literally called Gneiss.

The ore is affected by the Fortune enchantment.

Uses[]

Oddly enough, Gneiss is a very dangerous material once crafted into a block or found otherwise. When broken, it drops itself, but also spawns a lava source in the space it was occupying, potentially giving it a use as more than a simple decoration block. Do note that the block *may* only drop when using Silk Touch, this has not been confirmed.

Antlion Overlord Pyramids[]

Gneiss is found in far more extravagant variants within Antlion Overlord Pyramids. It still retains its lava-producing effect, which prevents players from simply mining through the mazes. However, these variants can also be obtained, namely;

  • Carved Gneiss
  • Layered Gneiss
  • Gneiss Brick
  • Smooth Gneiss
  • Gneiss Tiles
  • Gneiss Gas Vents aka Cracked Gneiss

None of these variants can be crafted as of yet, and the Gas Vent variants will still produce flame pillars on occasion, so best be careful. It is possible to obtain these if they drop at an angle that throws them away from the lava produced by breaking them; this writer has obtained several using this method, however it is very hit-and-miss.
